Kate Ryan is an author who has always wanted to be one since childhood because she has a strong passion for presenting her experiences. Childhood abuse has enabled her to develop a strong empathy towards other people who go through the same challenges. She was healed after embracing Jesus as her Savior at 29 and this changed the essence of her life. She has conducted a lot of research, trying to find out information about abuse to help herself heal and to help other people. She has a background of attending courses in counseling, physiology, and public speaking that she acquired in a Christian college. Kate has a mission to offer people hope and direction via her writings to give hope to those who are wounded and seeking comfort.
My mother first showed me how to make this rug when I was eight years old. Over the years I made lots of rugs, because they are fun to make. After making our rugs, different people would ask me to show them how to make my rug. I thought because I knew how to make the rugs everyone else knew how to make the rugs too. To my surprise I found no one knew how to make the rugs. At that time I was praying Psalm 37:4 asking God to give me my own business. March 7, 1986 I began Aunt Philly’s Toothbrush Rugs I used an old toothbrush by cutting the bristles off and filing it into a point. When the toothbrush companies stopped putting the hole in the handle(1986) I began making the needle out of plastic in which I had a mold made. So I named my business after the tool that I made.

I am awestruck by the author’s portrayal of the darker side of childhood, where “home” isn’t always a safe space. It stirs up feelings of confusion and steadiness—it reminds me of a great lesson I learned in my life that our early experiences make us who we become. Powerful stuff! It makes you rethink what “home” really means.
The words and the language here in this book is so good. It presents the saddening environment, all soul-shaking and immersing one into how the author was feeling -helplessness and longing. I think everybody should give this a read.
This book truly captures feelings of childhood abuse so well! Childhood abuse is one of those things that really makes you wonder what you did to deserve that treatment. Growing up as an individual, you often find yourself longing for an ounce of attention and love, just like a normal kid. The worst part is that you don’t even realize that the abuse is not normal and that you are being treated differently until you observe how other children are treated by their guardians.
This book…it really made me emotional, and I was unable to put this book down. I read it for the longest time, even though I’m not usually an emotional person. However, this book evoked feelings I had buried long ago. The worst experiences a child can go through are all depicted in this book, and I hope no one has to go through the problems described throughout the text.
